June 24, 2021
A group of forty-four Buddhist monastics and laypeople, most of whom are wearing religious robes, stand on the steps at the front entrance of Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple in Los Angeles, California. Everyone is masked. Most attendees wear a white paper mask decorated on one side with vertical calligraphy in black ink.

Dear readers,

Today, June 24th, 2021, marks 100 days after the Atlanta-area shootings. To commemorate this memorial day, Duncan Williams, Funie Hsu, and I have released a short video featuring highlights from May We Gather: A National Buddhist Memorial for Asian American Ancestors. We hope the video can be a resource for sanghas, classrooms, and other communities. If you're so moved, please join us in taking a moment to make a ritual offering of light, incense or flowers; to recite a chant; or to simply observe a moment of respectful silence.

Warmly,Β
